About this project
So we did a thing.
We made our own Vinyl record. With selected songs, newly recorded from 78rpm Shellacs from our collection.
But why? Music can be downloaded or streamed on various services, the quality seemingly cleaner than what you can hear from a shellac.
Well… once we realized the difference between the best digital version of the songs and the 78rpm/shellac version, we knew we had to give it a try to improve the sound quality.
Hence our approach was to freshly digitize music in the most analogue way.
The result is the first Shuffle Café Vinyl Edition. Episode 1.
Strictly limited to 500 copies.
We hope you like it. And we love to tell you more about it whenever we meet again.
It’s available on Vinyl only (and just after purchasing a record, you will receive a download code).
You can order it right here (see below) or on Discogs.
It all started back in Summer 2019, when we went into phase one by selecting the songs and selecting the right partner for this project: Austrovinyl in Fehring, Styria/Austria. Johann Fauster and Peter Wendler became “partners in crime”, proving a lot of patience and stamina to find analogue ways to freshly “digitize” the songs. The actual recording session happened in January 2020, with hours of patient recording, careful listening and adjusting. The final record was ready and delivered in March 2020 – on time for the Vienna Balboa & Laminu Experience, but then Sars-Covid-2 changed the world.
The drawing is provided by Katharina Luksch, a fellow Balboa dancer who created the dance couple pictured on the record. We really like the drawing, as it pictures how indiviual, imperfect-perfect every dance, every song is.
The general artwork was done by Irma Tulek, who did a great job to merge the big amount of information and graphical lightness.
The sleeve paper has been hand-picked to add a sensual feeling.
