Shuffle Café Vinyl Edition (Episode 1)

So we did a thing.
In 2016, we started collecting the original shellac records – out of love for authenticity and the longing for the “original” sound.

With a growing collection of 78rpm records, we began to realise that there is a lot of music out there, which either never made it onto a vinyl LP, let alone a CD, or, if it is available, was converted from a very worn Shellac record using poor equipment. So, in short, there is a lot of wonderful music that was published on Shellac records, which is not available for today’s DJs and dancers, at least not in a quality that does the original recording any justice.

Therefore, it was only a small and logical step towards the idea of converting and re-publishing some of our favourite music, so that others may enjoy these tunes as well. With our newly acquired preference for analogue media, publication as a vinyl LP seemed obvious, however, we faced the challenge of how to achieve this goal. Luckily, we got in touch with a group of enthusiasts who in 2017 decided to re-establish the production of vinyl records in Austria. Johann Fauster and Peter Wendler of Austrovinyl were extremely helpful in providing their time, expertise and equipment to convert the music on our Shellac records into files which could then be sent to the cutter to create the matrix for the record you are currently holding.

We called this record “Episode 1” (no relation to Sci-Fi movies intended), hoping that enough people will appreciate the idea and the music of this record to make this the first of a whole series of similar volumes.
