What is Laminu – and Who is Ray Cunningham?

Laminu is a coupled dance in close embrace that enables you to dance to Slow Swing or Crooner/popular music from the 1940ies to 1960ies (and beyond).

Laminu and SlowBal
Albeit related, it is not a small variant of SlowBal. It is a dance on its own right.

Ray’s Laminu
We were lucky and deeply honored to have learnt Laminu from the original source: Ray Cunningham, the Oldtimer for Laminu.
Ray’s Laminu is not a vintage swing dance as such, as his Laminu is allegedly from 1951. His version has common elements, but differs from Swing dances in movement or flow. He always claimed that Laminu is a dance in its own right.

This is what we also learnt from Dan Guest – the Midtimer for Laminu – who invested a great amount of work and investigation to understand Laminu and keep this dance alive by teaching and talking about it. We owe him not only that we are now the next generation of Laminu Ambassadors, but the fact that the legacy of Ray Cunningham is preserved.

About the Laminu Lab Weekend

This weekend provides you with the unique opportunity to discover, learn and improve the Laminu as we love it most – the Ray Laminu. It is our first shot to focus on Laminu only, therefore we keep a low profile, aiming for a pleasant weekend.

Your teachers

Sandra Hartbach & Axel Schwarz will be teaching the classes and leading the Train The Trainer session.
